Your child usually will give small sometimes nearly imperceptible signs that they need help. Be on the look out for changes in behavior. Sometimes the change is gradual so you may not notice, so look back several months or a year and ask yourself what is different? Are they more anxious, angry or sad than before? Is there an increase in sibling chaos. Could there be some form of self-harm. Are there teacher complaints about attention, behavior, effort or maybe peer relations.
Growing up can be hard, and parenting difficult! Together we can figure out what is going on and how to help. For students experiencing behavior or academic concerns sometimes visiting the campus can help. Meeting at the school helps me to help your child by gaining knowledge about the system your child is experiencing. Working collaboratively with you, your child and the teachers we can help your child make progress.
I am a former school counselor and teacher and have worked with children, adolescents, their parents and teachers for 23 years. I use a proven evidenced based approach that transforms lives for the better with noticeable improvement often after the first session. There is nothing wrong with you or your loved one that what is right can’t fix. The sooner we begin the sooner things will improve. Expect improvement after the first session. Most clients need only six sessions.
I will help you figure out how to best work with the educators to help them serve your child better. We will work together to determine if your child would benefit from a 504, and if modifications are needed and you wish, I will attend 504 and ARD meetings with you to help you negotiate for the best possible outcome for your child.
