I have worked   extensively with children, teens, individuals, families and couples using Solution Focused, Narrative and Restorative approaches to therapy. The conversational skills required of the therapist to invite the client to build solutions are different from those used by counselors to diagnose and treat problems. You only need say as little or as much as you choose.  When you engage with the counselor in solution building you won’t have to if you don’t want to talk in depth about traumatic problems from your past in order to get what you want out of counseling.

Solution Focused and Narrative approaches to therapy diverge from traditional treatment in that traditional treatment focuses on exploring problematic feelings, cognition’s, and behaviors and providing interpretations, confrontation, and client education.  In contrast, Solution Focused and Narrative Therapy helps clients develop a desired vision of the future where the problem is solved, and explore and amplify related client exceptions, strengths, and resources to build a client specific pathway to making the vision a reality.

The client’s goals are often achieved in six sessions or less.  My own personal research from my work shows that the client not only improves but maintains the improvement over time and are able to use what they learned about their strengths and skills in other situations in the future.

Finding a counselor can be a difficult process and I want you to feel comfortable, so please call to schedule a free phone consultation so we can discover together if I am the right counselor for you.
